Μετωνόμασε δ᾿ αὐτὸν Α᾿ριςοτέλης Θεόφραςον, ἅμα μὲν φεύγων τὴν τȏυ προτέρου ὀνόματος κακοφωνίαν, ἅμα δὲ τὸν τῆς φράσεως αὐτοῦ ζῆλον ἐπισημαινό μενος, ἅπαντας γὰρ λογίους ἐποίησε τοὺς μαθητὰς Α᾿ριςοτέλης, λογιώτατον δὲ Θεόφραςον. Successit Aristoteli in Schola Peripatetica. Dicere solebat, doctum hominem ex omnibus solum neque alienis locis peregrinum esse, neque inopem amicorum. Oratorem absque iudicio, equum effrenem vocavit: Tempus πολυτελεςατον ἀνάλωμα dixit: Tacenti, si saptens es, inquit, male facis; si non, sapiens es. Habuit discipulos ad 2. milia.
